Week One Disaster

Well I will just get this out of the way and say that last night’s game was one of the sloppiest games I have ever seen. The offense was absolutely awful and even worse had it not been for all those awful penalties then the Jets still would have managed to win. However the world is not going to end. So unlike pretty much everyone in the media I am going to look at the bright spots that came from this because surprisingly enough there still are some.

First of all, the defense looks absolutely incredible, especially the run defense in particular. Had it not been for all those completely ridiculous penalties the Jets would have given up only 6 points and it could be argued they might have only given 3 points. Now I am absolutely not trying to make excuses for the Jets losing because any way you look at it because of the play of the offense the Jets deserved to lose. However after giving up 125 yards on 14 penalties (some of which I consider to be very questionable) the Jets only lost by one to a great team.

A second bright spot is, I will repeat myself; after playing such an awful awful offensive game, the Jets had the ball down by one with the chance to beat Baltimore with their last drive. I know as a Super Bowl contender you should expect to win every game(and I do expect the Jets two win every game) and you should next even begin to think about moral victories, but after last night you can’t not take a moral victory out of that game last night. The defense was amazing and our defense was as bad as they possibly could and yet we only lost by one point against Baltimore. Now I know that I keep repeating myself but it is something that needs to be repeated. Coming into the season Baltimore is one of five teams besides the Jets that I think have a shot at making the Super Bowl out of the AFC. So losing by one to a super bowl contender in a game that you played so poorly in shouldn’t be the fatal shot that the media is trying to make it out to be. So people need to stop trying to make it seem as if the Jets Super Bowl hopes have been killed by one loss.

On another note I can’t believe what happened to Kris Jenkins last night. In his first ¼ back on the field he has another season ending knee injury. It is awful for the Jets, but much worse for him. The Jets will find a way to make up for the loss on defense just like they did last year. Sione Pouha is a legitimate starting nose guard and I am hoping that a disgruntled player down in oh I don’t know Washington, might be in the Jets future. I know that his beef was started when because he didn’t want to play in a 3-4 but I am hoping that getting to play on a defense as dominant as the Jets D is something that might entice Albert to change his mind. I don't think that Jenkins will ever suit up for the Jets again and he may even retire after this most recent injury. So I would like to thank Big Jenkins for all that he did for the Jets and I hope you can make a comeback somewhere.

Beyond that the game was what it was. It was basically a joke of a game and it is absurd that Rex Ryan let the team play so sloppy. However I have no worries that he is not going to find a way to have them more focused for this week’s game against the Patriots. So I’m not going to bother worrying about all the ridiculous things that went wrong. I basically look at this as a game that truly just needs to be forgotten about. Doing so is in my mind, a much better tactic then bashing the players for everything they did wrong. They need to have short memories and move on to worrying about their next opponent. So I am going to do the same thing myself and just forget about it.
